At Sumo Technologies we are constantly reviewing the impact our business has on the environment, which is why in 2020 we formally adopted the 7 Rs of Sustainability philosophy. The advent of the latest major release of the Window’s operating system has the potential for thousands of perfectly serviceable computers to be consigned to the scrapheap due to the perceived difficulty in running a new operating system on old hardware.
Whilst some version of Windows may render certain processors redundant it is normally the complex array of drivers installed on a PC that make an upgrade too difficult a task especially when an organisation is faced with tens, hundreds, or even thousands of computers to upgrade. An additional problem for IT professionals as a whole is that because of the driver landscape differing from one organisation to another there is not a one-size-fits-all solution meaning that any upgrade solution has to be tailored for each.
At Sumo Technology we have come up with a potential solution to this problem that makes use of our twenty-plus years in the industry as well as the resources at our Service Centre in North Yorkshire and whilst each upgrade may be different, the route to the solution is the same and has been codified following several successful projects.
